Like everyone else, I'm trying to figure out why my step-daughters iPhone 5S has been chewing through data since she left for college.

You are really wondering how your step-daughter is burning through so much data? That first sentence says it all. :) It doesn't matter how much wifi the university has since she's probably using her iPhone constantly in between wifi zones.

Very recently Verizon and AT&T have revived their unlimited plans and with families the prices are actually reasonable. The prices are significantly cheaper for unlimited data on Spring and T-mobile if their coverage happens to work for you.

The iPad loads most websites in their full versions whereas the iPhone loads a lot of sites in their mobile forms so surfing on iPad would probably consume more data.
TrueLaLey Sister so TRUE and agree with you.

Actually iPad is like 3 Times bigger than iPhone, of course iPad Browser is waaay different. iPad Saffari's loads up desktop sites while iPhone even it's an iPhone 6/7/8 Plus or even an X is just EXTREMELY SMALL like an ant so it still stuck in the Mobile site. iPad has more image to show, one at a time, and can even play an ads while iPhone Doesn't.

iPhone browsing time for 10 Minutes consumes average of 7-9 MB Only despite of having SMALL SCREEN and other things aren't supported to avoid being cramped.

iPad Browsing time for 10 minutes consumes 60MB as it's load more Ads at a time, and more pop-ups video.
Macbook or Laptop consumes over 90MB in just 10 Minutes, like browsing the web with lot's of adds and pictures. Though macbook doesn't even managed to double the data usage over the iPad because or nearly the same because of screen size factors.

Screen size is one of the factor that iPad uses more data than iPhone, iPhone X or iPhone 4S browsing is relatively the same despite they are both mobile limited, but extremely limited to launch a desktop site. Otherwise, the desktop site for an iPhone would be extremely too small to read even on a iPhone Plus size version LOL hahaha. Even you merge the size of an iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus it will still be smaller than iPad mini right??? Of couse iPad Mini is going to be 40-50 MB higher than iPhone. data usage.
