I would like to be able to use my 3G iPad for taking a road trip without activating 3G. Does anyone know of an iPad or iPhone app that will enable the downloading of maps that I can then use with the ipads gps to track my location? I know that I can access google maps and pan around and the iPad will store some of the maps, but after a few miles of driving, I "go off the grid" and the map disappears and I just appear as a blue dot in the middle of a gray sea.l

MotionX HD gps wi ll do this, you pick how much you want to download even.

It's cheap too at $4. it doesn't do turn by turn though, which is a bummer.

N drive is out at $5 or so and shows it does turn by turn routing. This appears to have all the maps in place though, as it is 1.5gb or so in size.

Thanks for the tips, I'll check them out now. I actually forget to mention in my original post that I was looking for free or cheap apps. Thanks again!
