iPhone 12 mini Dumb, newbie question: going from TouchID to FaceID with new phone

All my previous iPhones have used TouchID.

With the iPhone 12 Mini I am getting, it uses FaceID obviously. Question: All my apps that allow me to log in with my fingerprint, will they automatically use FaceID now? Or will I have to reenter all the passwords from the keyboard and then it will use FaceID?

This is my going to be my first FaceID phone and was just curious about this.

As far as I’ve noticed, it automatically converts your TouchID to FaceID with almost no work from your end.

Yep the underlying APIs are the same for Touch ID and Face ID. All the apps will work without any issues.

Some apps will make you log in with your app's ID and PW to allow Touch ID again, particularly some banking apps.

As others have said, it's mostly seamless (to allow biometric authentication regardless of what it is), but some of the more secure apps may require you to log in first with a password and then "allow" the app to use FaceID moving forward.

FaceID works everywhere TouchID works, but if you get a new phone (regardless of whether it uses face or fingerprint), many apps will require you to log in once with the password before you can use biometrics.
