DVD burner doesn't burn....

It's a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104 unit. I'm using a G4 power pc (not the mirrored door). OS 10.3.9.

Does anyone have any suggestions? It plays, but does not record, even with Toast. It never worked, but I now have an interest to use it.

I know it's not necessary with 10.4 but you might need it for 10.3
