I am setting up a website where creators sign up and upload their content as zip files. The site sells the content and give the creators back a percentage of the sale.

I usually build sites from scratch HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Php, MySQL. However, I am starting to think I need to start using more pre made plugins, code and platforms, especially with a project of this scale.

Does anyone know of an e-Commerce platform (preferably with a php api) like this we can use? Either free or paid for?

- Sellers upload zip files to their account and set a price
- Buyers browse the digital products and can see which creator uploaded them
- Buyers can buy and then securely download the zip files (this is key only the buyer can download)
- We give the seller a percentage of their sales

Spree, specially Spree marketplace is a solid foundation for what you want to do. However, you'll need to learn some Ruby to customise it. Or alternatively you can review their API's and use it as a template for something you build yourself.
