Google shows some folks having issues, but I have yet to find something showing that it works. Was wondering so I could pick one up today and take it with me on my three-week vacation in the UK--centering around London.

I know I can get prepaid data SIMs from several carriers over there, but I was wondering if the internal SIM would work, or if I should just buy a SIM and plug it in. I'd hate to get there next week and learn it doesn't work under any configuration.

Yes it will work. Earlier this year I took my iPad Mini Retina to the UK, purchased a pay as you go EE sim and had LTE (and 3g) everywhere I went (Edinburgh, London, Manchester).

It was super handy for the train from Edinburgh to London. The train wifi was overloaded and unusable for colleagues while I was zipping along on my iPad.
