iPad Email on an IPad need assistance with emails not showing

Hi all

My mother in law has an iPad mini and has a problem with email. I am 300 miles away so have tried to fix it using factime over her phone but frankly it has beaten me.

Issue - Inbox is showing 2 emails as a number counter, but when you go to the actual inbox it is blank. She also thinks emails she kept in her inbox are gone.

The IPad is connected to the internet. I sent her an email and that she can see. Is there anything she could have clicked that would have hidden emails or asked the iPad to only show her certain ones?

Update, just sent her another one and she says she can’t see it. Has she selected something like another mailbox or something like that? She only has one email address and I have checked that online and it is working.
