There's no apparent difference in volume between US iPod Classic and iPhone 3G, is the "French volume limit" finally gone?

It's much louder than my iPod Touch. I'd say the iPhone on just under half is equivalent to the iPod Touch on full. So yes, seems to be gone :)

Wonder how thats possible since its under European regulation to have this limit. Maybe it only applies to pure music players, eg not phones.

Yeah, my original european iPhone didn't have a limit and was much louder than my iPod, the 3G iPhone is roughly the same so maybe this limit is for music players not phones.

The volume limit on iPods is absolutely ridiculous, on a plane it is near impossible to hear anything.

I bought some in-ear headphones for £8 off of Amazon and this seems to do the trick, it hurts my ears on about 3 quarters full.
