I'm trying to copy a backup to my LaCie 250GB Firewire 400 drive and it keeps coming up with the error "Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (Error Code -1309)."
I had this problem (or something similar) with a LaCie 200GB USB drive on the last model of the eMac. Any ideas?

Is it a 4GB+ file on a FAT32 drive? From memory, -1309 is a file size error or a corrupt file error in that the system cannot tell where the file starts or ends. :(

You may as well check the drive using Disk Utility all the same. :)

Ah ok. It's a 91GB .FullBackup file that I'm moving to the HD which has 134GB free. If I run DiskUtility, can I simply format the disk if there is problems?

Edit: just ran Verify

"Verifying volume “HARVEY”
** /dev/disk1s1
** Phase 1 - Read FAT
** Phase 2 - Check Cluster Chains
** Phase 3 - Checking Directories
** Phase 4 - Checking for Lost Files
1365 files, 3302112 free (4428567 clusters)
Mounting Disk

1 non HFS volume checked
Volume passed verification"

Anyone? Is there anyway I can format the drive? When I go to erase it says that it can't unmount it.

Do you have any apps using it that may prevent it from being unmounted? Maybe restart and then try using Disk Utility again to reformat it (assuming it's FAT32 and you want HFS+ which is only a good idea if you plan on never using it with a PC). :)

What's the best formatting just for Mac? I'll never use it on a PC...only my iBook and iMac.
