Eye Candy Block Elements

Hi I am trying to create some block diagrams for my office web site. Can someone point me some tutorials or templates to pick to design something like this http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/macosx-10.4.ars/14

I really liked the eye candy in the block diagram.

Looks like something that can be put together in Illustrator or Freehand. Nothing to complex other than to create some primitive shapes, outline them and use a gradient fill.

What programs do you available to create vector art with?
