FaceTime Not Available While in Clamshell Mode

I'm not sure if this is normal, but I recall in older versions of MacOS that I was was still able to accept and make outbound FaceTime calls, despite my Macbook's webcam being unavailable due to clamshell mode. However, that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. MacOS blurs the caller's video feed when mine is unavailable. Is this intentional, or some sort of glitch?

The microphone isn't operational when closed anyway. Mac's with the T2 security chip physically disconnect the microphone when the laptop is closed. This is to completely circumvent malware attacks that focus on eavesdropping.

My MacBook Pro is a mid 2014 model. The microphone is still operational while in clamshell mode.
