I am going to factory reset my MacBook pro. After erasing the hard drive, do I need to reinstall MacOS first, or can I backup from Time Machine right away?

Factory reset—restore backup or reinstall MacOS?

You would first re-install MacOS and then Migrate backed up data from the Time Machine backup.
