Hello;

Today I tried to factory reset my iMac so I went into disk utilities to erase the Macintosh HD...afterwards a message popped saying that the operation failed...then I tried the first aid option to see if it would fix any errors on the disk...it then said that the operation was completed so I assumed that the errors were fixed. I then proceeded to reinstall a fresh copy of the OSX High Sierra...but I also noticed that my Macintosh HD has disappeared so its not possible to reinstall the OS...I have no clue what is going on and why I am not seeing the MacHD anymore...

Below I have attached some photos that I took from the iMac screen with my phone...

Can any one please tell me what is going on here...have I done something wrong or missed something?...I look at these screens but I have no idea what I am looking at or what to do...

Thanks.

I see from your Disk Utility images that your iMac came with a Fusion drive, which is a combination of a 1 TB HDD and a (approx.) 28 GB SSD. And the Fusion Drive has been "split".

I think what you want to do is fix your Fusion drive. Then you will be able to install macOS onto the repaired Fusion drive. Here are Apple's instructions about how to fix it. Since you will be doing it from High Sierra recovery mode, it is quite a bit more complicated than if you had Mojave or later.

Make sure you follow the instructions for High Sierra, and read carefully!
