OS X Fallout 4 on 15" MBP 2019 - how to install/play? Best compatible controller?

Finally upgraded from an 2011 iMac last year - now itching to play Fallout 4... I see there's already a separate game discussion thread but I haven't played any games on Mac since Portal so it would be great it anyone could start me in the right direction - do I just run Windows version of Steam through WINE or Crossover?

What about controllers/gamepads? From what I've seen either Playstation DualShock 4 or Xbox One controller work the best (with some extra compatibility drivers?) but do they work with Fallout 4 or other Steam games in general?

Hoping the MBP specs will be ok:
2.3GHz i9
16GB RAM
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536MB

If that's no good I will probably just buy an Xbox...

Fallout 4 is a Windows only game so you would need to run it in Steam under Windows. I'm not sure how well WINE or Crossover will do since I run it under bootcamp.

I use an external keyboard and mouse so I'm also not sure about controllers/gamepads.

I'm playing on a PC, but I use a Naga gaming mouse, and a Razer Nostromo controller on just about every game I play because there are lots of programmable buttons. When I was playing games like this on my MBP I used the same controllers which worked fine under Boot Camp. Good luck!

It doesn't appear that FO4 is going to work under wine (or I guess Crossover)

You'll need to play it running windows and not any sort of emulation. Bootcamp is your best bet, though you can try it under parallels.

As for the controller, this game works well with a keyboard so no controller is needed

I agree about keyboard and mouse. I use the Razer Nostromo controller which is a programable keyboard for convenience.
