iPad Family Sharing query

Hi,

My Dad has received an iPad Mini 2 for Christmas and I was wondering whether if I setup family sharing and invited him, would he still be able to use his iTunes account for making purchases or would any of his purchases going forward be charged to the registered card on my iTunes account which is the root account for family sharing.

Your card will be charged when he makes purchases using his own iTunes account.
