FHD monitor for MBP retina or higher?

Hi,

Currently I have a 2011 MBP (non-retina) and I am looking for a monitor to buy. I am waiting for the new MBP with a skylake cpu to come out as well. So I would like a monitor that I can use both for my current 11' MBP and a new MBP in the future that is likely to have a QHD or higher screen resolution.

Can I use a FHD monitor with MBP retina? Is it not suggested? Wouldn't it make sense to get a monitor with at least a QHD resolution? I am not quite sure...

Your 2011 will run anything up to 1600p, and the next version will easily run 4K. So if you want to run on both then the 27 inch 2560 X 1440 are your best bet. But if you wait for the new one and only use that you may want the 4K loveliness.

Could I get the FHD and use that to run the newmacbook? Or do you think its such a waste to use such a low resolution monitor with the new macbook? (200 dollars is a real good deal)

About a half year ago I was actually in that same situation. I needed a monitor to use with my Macbook 15 inch retina and because of that I tried alot of different monitors. My conclusion is here that the best thing to do is buying a 4K Monitor ( I have a 4k 24 inch) to get a high ppi number. El Capitan/(Yosemite back then) just doesnt look good on smaller resolutions like 1080p or even 1440p.
Maybe that differs really from person to person (for me 1440p isnt even enough) but in my opinion you should really consider a 1440p or even a 4K monitor( if it isnt too expensive for you).

FHD?? I presume you mean full HD which is just 1080p that will run on almost anything made in the last 6 years.

I was in kinda the same situation last year. I have a late 2013 13" rMBP which can't drive 4k at 60 Hz and because I had no intention of upgrading in the near future I had to compromise a bit.

So I settled with a 1440p Dell U2515H.
It has a 25" display, so the PPI is a little bit higher than on the usual 27" ones. It's perfect, the display is pre-calibrated and everything looks really gorgeous on it.

The only problem might be that text seems to be too small for some people, because of 1440p on 25". I personally don't perceive it as too small. Another nice plus is that you have plenty of screen real estate compared to 1080p.

So yeah, check out the Dell U2515H 1440p. The reviews are also very good.

And for 1080p... After being exposed to only retina screens (phone, tablet, macbook) every non-retina display looks blurry to me now. So i would recommend not going below 1440p at this point.
