I absolutely loved Final Fantasy Legend 2 on my Gameboy in the 1990's. :D I think I played a Final Fantasy game on the SNES after that, and then lost track of the series. I actually started playing FF7 on the Playstation, but then one of the discs turned out to be defective, and I just never went back to it.

lol, I started with FF7 on the PlayStation and went back for the old ones. Haven't played FF14 (MMORPG) and have FF15 sitting in my backlog...

My first was FF6 (aka FF3 in the US), pretty much have played all of them since (haven't beaten 15 because man... not a fan), and clocked hundreds of hours between FF11, FF14 v.1 and A Real Reborn (the MMOs).

The latter is what has me so excited for this one, as Business Group 3 (the ones behind FFXIV: A Realm Reborn) are the ones developing it.A lot of the FF14 fandom is making jokes because the protagonist looks like the generic Hero of Light, Ardbert from FF14/ARR.

Definitely played I on the NES, and I might have played some between 1 and 7, then played them all from 7 to 13-2. Never got 13-3. Played 14 for a bit.
