Will the iPhone 3G become flash compatible, or is that something you would have to buy from the application store?

I'll sum up every answer you're likely to get, in order of most likely to least likely.

1) No, flash will never work on the iPhone.

2) Yes, but you'll have to buy an application from Adobe and it won't work in Safari, but outside it. Web links will send you there.

3) You won't need it because web developers won't want to lose iPhone viewers and will start doing everything in Java or SproutCore.

4) Not really, but some 3rd party company will offer a hack that will make Flash work. Sort of.

5) Yes, Adobe will make a deal with Apple to put it in Safari

6) Yes, Apple will fully support Flash on their own soon.

There you go. Take your pick!

You missed one:

7) Apple and Adobe are still arguing about it, so nobody knows. :D:p

8.) Its a conspiracy! Apple 'shopped the "download flash" link from the National Geographic website during the keynote!

From Adobe:

With respect to the iPhone, we are working on it. We have a version that’s working on the emulation. This is still on the computer and you know, we have to continue to move it from a test environment onto the device and continue to make it work. So we are pleased with the internal progress that we’ve made to date.

In this weeks apple news.... Adobe is still building a flash application/plug-in on their iphone Simulator:

Adobe still hanging on to Flash on iPhone thread:
http://arstechnica.com/journals/app...be-still-hanging-on-to-flash-on-iphone-thread

So to answer the OP's question the RIGHT WAY:

Yes. There will Be a Flash Application for the iPhone G3 =D
It's only time and a little bit of patience before we figure out how to get it.

Maybe a stand alone Flash Player application that works like a web browser? Dunno.
