Well, I formatted my entire disk and repartitioned it to 1. So I figured: "ok now to install OSX". Nope. When I click the volume there is a red "!" and it says I can't install it there. ..... Any tips at all?

Rebuild the partition table using Disk Utility from the install cd. Make sure you pick GUID for the partion type.

Why didn't you just use the Boot Camp application to dynamically resize your OS X partition? Anyhow; make sure you formatted the drive with a GUID partition scheme. OS X on intel won't install on anything else. If that doesnt work try running disk utility again from the install disk to make sure it's cleaned up any remnant files.
