Is their a free* program that i can get rid of the words in a song so i can just have the music?

i assume you mean from a stereo recording...

not really. the best you can do, for a song where the lead vocals are up the middle, is to phase invert one channel and combine it with the other. hopefully you won't lose too much of the rest of the song. some EQ can help with the leftovers.

i've spent only about 90 seconds in garageband, but i imagine it could handle the above.

Don't think GB will help either.

If you search for karaoke, there are a few threads around asking this very same question.

Not specifically.. I just remember GB not being able to take an MP3 with a single track and magically remove the lyrics.
Maybe do a half-assed job, or less..

Not to mention that GB isn't free. But that's another story.

i have to think that someone's written an AU plug to do this. aside from a mute plug-in, i'd imagine this is one of the easiest to do.
