Hi (again!),

I'm getting a powerbook. With it, I want to get the 23" display, nice speakers, and a keyboard+mouse. My wife still has her PC laptop. So I'm wondering if the display can be connected to PCs as well? I'm guessing that keyboards, mice, and speakers can be connected to both, right?

Any suggestions for good speakers?

Further, I'd like to get a wireless mouse with a wheel and a PC-type keyboard (not wireless though). Any suggestions/comments?? (I hear the logitech stuff is pretty good...)

Also, I'm wondering if there are any docking stations for powerbooks??!! And are there any that work simultaneously for PCs too????

Lastly, does the powerbook have enough ports to be hooked to the display, keyboard, mouse, speakers, printer, and a pen drive?!! If not, then is there a solution for that???

Thanks.

As long as your wife's laptop has video out, you'll be fine.

Of course DVI is preferable.

Keyboards and meeces should also be fine as long as they are either
USB or BlueTooth.

Same thing goes for printers.

You may end up needing an extra USB hub, but most of your stuff should
work seemlessly.

Very few PC laptops have a DVI out, unless your wife's laptop has one of these it won't work with the 23" display without a very expensive VGA -> DVI adaptor.

my department can give me such an adapter for free.. so that is not an issue then, i guess.

I've decided to go with the Dell 24". not just because
of the 5 inputs, the 4 USBs, and the higher number of degrees of freedom
for the pannel.. but because many (on this forum and elsewhere)
said it just works better.. also, it doesn't have the potential problems the
23" apple display may have (the pinkish greys, etc).. AND it's cheaper (which
was the last factor in the decision).

i've tried it in the store with a PB15" and it worked perfectly. i've also tried
it with a PC laptop, and it was a bit fuzzy at the full resolution, but that may
be because i need to update my video driver.. however, even as it is, when i
lowered the resolution to the equivalent of a 20", it was perfect. which i
consider is OK. 20" is still quite big.. and if i end up figuring out how to make
it as crisp with the full resolution, that would be heaven.

by the way, it was the same thing with the apple display. i.e. when i hooked
up my PC and calibrated the 23" (with the PC set to full resolution), it was a
bit fuzzy.. that may be a problem with my video driver.. or with the DVI to VGA conversion.. i'm not sure. but in any case, it was not better than the
Dell.

as for the rest of the items i was looking for, see my other thread:
