While the iPhone's Safari will read basic RSS feeds, the lack of a RSS feed organizer makes it a difficult tool to use.

Fortunately, Google's Reader service is optimized for the iPhone (and other mobile devices).

If you don't have a Reader account setup, you need to do so through your desktop/laptop computer. The mobile version of Reader is read-only, and does not allow you to manage your subscriptions. Each RSS story is listed in reverse chronological order and links to the RSS summary. If you want to visit the full article, Google's Reader automatically compresses it into a "mobile friendly" version which strips out much of the extra markup.

If you're interested in an iPhone RSS reader that allows you to manage your RSS feeds on the go, stay tuned, as there's at least one in development and in limited testing.

Strange Behavior

Is anyone experiencing something strange with Google Reader? I first noticed it about an hour ago.

The behavior is this: I'll be surfing on the iphone google reader site, it'll pull up the 10 most recent feeds, i'll click on one of them, it'll take me to that feed summary, i'll click to return back to google reader home and ... this is where it gets a bit weird ... there will be a big white space over the top of the screen.

A few observations:
1. This appears to be related to javascript. I've tested it with JS disabled via settings and this behavior does not manifest itself.
2. It worked correctly earlier in the day.
3. I don't think I changed any system settings between earlier in the day and subsequent to this behavior.
4. I switched the url to https, but this does not appear to be the problem as it still appears when I use the insecure http address.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I noticed this morning that Google apparently made some changes affecting the appearance of the site. There may still be some bugs in the new setup.

Updates

Yes, I also noticed that the guys at Google took their mobile reader down earlier this morning. It appears to be up now, but I am still experiencing the white space that I described in my prior post. So, for now, I'm running with JavaScript off ...
