GPU Scheduling?

After seeing the recent PyTorch article on reddit, ref https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/qr8t4z
I am curious if anyone has seen apple documentation or other trusted forum/news source/blog regarding GPU scheduling? What happens to the OS's GPU needs (and other windowed applications) when you fire up long running GPU based task? Is it as simple as priority?

What happens to the OS's GPU needs (and other windowed applications) when you fire up long running GPU based task? Is it as simple as priority?

It is not as trivial from my own experience, if that background task is too GPU-intensive the whole system UI may become not responsive. This happened to me on M1 at least.
