There's been a lot of discussion re: what the new iPad Pros will cost, with early reports saying it would be a big jump for the 2024 models, and then later rumors walking it back and saying it would only be a slight increase. Plus with there likely being a 13" Air, there's another price point to consider.

What is your guess for the new lineup's price point? I'm going with:

Wi-Fi Only Models:
iPad Air (M2) 11": $599
iPad Air (M2) 13": $899
iPad Pro (M3) 11": $999 (256GB starting storage)
iPad Pro (M3) 13": $1299 (256GB starting storage)

I think new versions of Apple Pencil / Magic Keyboard stay the same price - feels like they're already bumping up against the ceiling of what consumers will tolerate, but maybe I'm just delusional.

Your thoughts?

My predictions:
Wi-Fi Only Models:
iPad Air (M2) 10.9": $599
iPad Air (M2) 12.9": $799
iPad Pro (M3) 11.1": $999 (256GB starting storage)
iPad Pro (M3) 13": $1199 (256GB starting storage)

Going from miniled to oled likely to be $100, from lcd to oled $200 and from small to big $200.
MK is probably going to increase in price, Pencil may the same.

I think this makes sense, except that right now for the Pros, going from small to big is a $300 upcharge.

MK is probably going to increase in price, Pencil may the same.
The MK increasing in price probably is going to happen, although it feels ridiculous to pay ~$400 for a keyboard case. There better be a real increase/evolution in functionality if Apple's going to hike the price.

Precisely because one is miniled and the other isn't, Oled for both will take it back to $200

I know, but indeed it should have more functionality. What I hope is that older pencils and MKs stay compatible, that would be an even bigger issue than a $50 price increase... (assuming it's just that, when you think that the keyboard for the iPad 10 is over half the price of the base model everything is possible....)

I doubt the older Mks would stay compatible with the front facing camera changing to landscape.

256GB 12.9 is already at $1199 so no price increase on the 12.9/13?

I know you didn’t ask me, but I predicted the same thing so I’ll give my rationale:

I think they’ll want to increase their ASP a bit, and eliminate the lower margin Pros hence ridding the 128GB from the lineup. So start at 256GB… And then for the 11-inch, I don’t expect it to have more than a $200 price difference from the 12.9”, given the pricing deltas in the MBP lineup and the rumored feature parity. So if they put the 13” Pro at $1299 to start, they have the 11” at… $1099?? That would be a $300 starting price increase from the last generation, almost up 40%. I don’t see it. Also given recent decline in iPad revenue, I don’t think you want to (continue to) price out the market.

Trickier to predict than I thought, to be honest.
Very good prediction, in line with what I expect (although the air could keep the same price at the entry level but a $50 increase is indeed possible)
There are talks of a 4TB version, since removing the 128 will mean less models.
If they give it 24GB RAM that may make sense to some people (maybe more than the 2TB version)

I do agree, and that's in line with what I'd have answered, that is, more storage is just a very cheap (for Apple) way to help swallow the pill of the $200 OLED price increse ($100 from miniled). For Apple giving 256 instead of 128 will be under $10 but it helps justify the value (so they can say the 11" is just $100 more and the 13" is the same price), marketing genius.

I agree with these prices, they seem the most realistic.
The only reason the current iPad Pro 12.9 is $300 more expensive is because… Is using a significantly different display technology than the 11 inch.
I also think the iPad Air will bump the storage from 64 GB starting to 128 GB starting.
It just matches what they’ve been doing with the rest of their products of late, every iPhone at $599 or above starts at 128 GB now (which was absolutely not the case when the last iPad Air released), the MacBook Pro starts at 512 GB now, and even the MacBook Air has faster storage chips with the M3.

The only thing I disagree with is the fact that the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard will go up in price, I don’t see this as likely.
I think (especially for the iPad Air) we’ll see the current Magic Keyboard drop down by $100 ($199), and the new magic keyboards take the place of the old ones in the lineup.

I also doubt they will be compatible, but not because of the landscape camera, that shouldn’t affect anything.
But because the leaked dimensions of the new iPad Pros show that it’s very slightly wider, very slightly taller and quite a bit thinner, so it more than likely just… Simply wouldn’t fit.

Concerning the MK I think it all depends if it gets new significant features or not. If it gets 2 USB ports, maybe even with data or video out (doubt it but you never know), with magsafe on the keyboard (not on the iPad) to charge other devices, or additional positions / wider angles, in that case I could see at least an extra $50.
As for the dimensions this is assuming they are correct, and it's not just a bezels reduction... If they are indeed the old MK will only be for current devices.

Concerning the Pencil I think the main reason for a Pencil 3 is new magnets for a landscape camera, but Apple may want to add new features to justify the upgrade, like the rumored color picking or find my support, maybe even with sound.
So there again if enough features are added I can see a price increase...

Question is also will the new pencil be compatible with older devices (in theory no).

In terms of the Magic Keyboard, the only real upgrade I'm anticipating is aluminum on the top side of the case and a slightly larger trackpad, as per those rumors from a few months ago. Apple probably thinks that's enough of a reason to charge $50 more. I would love another port / magsafe / fast-charging from the current USB-C port, but I am doubtful.

Apple Pencil I could see a redesign w/new magnets to allow for the new camera placement, but I don't anticipate major new functionality like a color-picker (I feel like we would have heard about that by now as that would require a more substantial redesign). I do have my fingers crossed that V3 can use the opposite end as an eraser (like a real pencil), freeing up the button to be a different brush/pen.

No price changes in the Air, since it's just an update in the processor.

Pro 13" increases by $100 and the 11" increases by $200 due to screen parity now.

This allows Apple to sell iPad models at a good spread of price points.

On the Air 11" and 13" are too high here for 64GB - for that price, you have to start at 128GB (for that price to sell) to get volume. People will jump up or down a model for that price

I suppose he was assuming that $50 price increase was for 128GB starting storage

I’m assuming Apple will not budge on the attractive $599 price point and there are still many 64 GB iPads being sold.

Yeah, but Apple lately has raised the storage on their devices.

iPhone recently received an increase in storage while taking away the 128GB iPhone Max model to start it at 256GB instead. It's either Apple upgrades the storage or the price (maybe both) ... I believe one will see a change.

And those 64GB models are the base iPads... I don't see those storage configurations changing, but the iPad Airs and Pros.

I feel like the pencils are unlikely to stay compatible. Currently the magnet is right where the front-facing camera is going to be. Maybe they've found a way to put all that hardware in the same space. If not, I wonder if they'll move to a split-magnet arrangement around the front-facing camera for a new camera. There are also rumors that the next Pencil might be shorter and designed to stick on the shorter side of the iPad, where the front-facing camera is now. In theory you could continue to use a Pencil 2 by sticking it on that spot, but it'd cover the speakers and Apple tends to disallow things like that. For example, there's no reason a Pencil 1 shouldn't be compatible with post-2017 iPads as long as you can get it charged, but Apple forbids it.

The magnets are already split now. It's the charging window that needs to move.

Also, how would the Apple Pencil 1 pair with USB-C iPads?
