I have a 2013 trashcan connected to a Denon AVR which is connected to a Sony TV (tried using the HDMI port and a DisplayPort to HDMI cable with similar results). When I have the TV on, audio plays fine. As soon as I turn the TV off within minutes, the audio starts flipping from internal speaker back to receiver. I have all the HDMI control settings off on the receiver, and it is set not to pass through to the TV. HDMI sound is set to receiver (not tv).

it would be nice to have the TV off while playing music thru the receiver from the Mac (not interested in airplay on the receiver for various reasons). Workaround is to leave the TV on but turn off screen/display in the TV settings.

Something to do with the TV/receiver connection is causing this… HDMI/HDCP handshaking?
