Help on updating and jailbreaking an ipod touch on version 3.1.3

i'm not quite sure how i can safely jailbreak my ipod. it has already been jailbroken with spirit and its on version 3.1.3(7E18). Its model is MC086ZP. I want to update it to any versions of ios 4.0 and up and then jailbreak it. please help. Also it was jailbroken with spirit.

Do you have SHSH's saved for 4.0?

Open up Cydia and check to see if it says "iOS 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2.1, 4.3"

If there are any "4.x" numbers then I can help you.

If Cydia just shows 3.1.3 or nothing, then you cant do anything and you will have to wait for a 4.3 jailbreak.
