Unless this is somehow already possible, ‘Home’ should allow a user to set an alias for a room locally. A good case could be the kids using HomePod intercom.
Eg ‘intercom master bedroom’ is not quite the same as ‘intercom mum and dads room’, which seems more natural to the user?

You can change the room name, I just had a mess around to turn my HomePod mini to hobby room. Can’t remember the steps but it’s there.

Yes but it changes the room name for everyone.
I might want to refer to my room as ‘master bedroom’, but my kids may want to refer to it as ‘Dads room’

This can actually be done! You have to do it through “Room Settings” and “Zones”. For instance I have my hallway room named ”Hallway” in the Home App and then under zones its also called just “Hall”. This way it responded to both. You can also add as many zones as you like. Works great for room aliases and groupings. Example “Inside” ”Outside” Upstairs” etc...
