How does music download from iTunes?

So I have some songs that were bought in 2020 and the same songs bought in 2021 have different file size. Usually bigger.

does Apple change their codex often and that’s why. Because in theory it downloads from iTunes database at whatever the new codex is?

otherwise they are the same song from the same album

Could be. I find it so weird how a file bought from iTunes new zeland or Europe can be different in size than the file from USA.

Is the music downloaded directly at “”iTunes plus” or is their a backend that converts a lossless file that Apple has in a database.
