I just bought a second hand 4s for a killer price, 60$ neverlocked 32GB and I want to keep this phone on 7.1.1 and not 8. How is the experience on 7.1.1? Are there any lags? Can this iphone handle all the blur, transparency, fancy animations or live wallpapers? Do apps lag as bad as on the iphone 4? Right now I don't have the iphone so that's why I am asking you. Thanks!

most of the reports seem to be that it does run slower

walmart just cut the 5c price to $30 & 5s to $100 though, maybe you can get one of them instead

Why would you think every person wants phones on contracts? I hate contracts so I won't be doing them anymore.

Thanks for the answers. I can't buy a phone on contract and I am not from USA. I am also planing to keep this iphone on ios 7 and not ios 8. I know it is slower than ios 6 but I just don't want it to be "iphone 4 slow"

I'm on a 4s on 7.1.2, and have never had any speed issues. It Runs fine. If you're keeping it on iOS 7 the 4S is a good choice. If you ever want to update to iOS 8 go with the 5c atleast .

No ios 8 for me, I've learnt my lesson with my iphone 4 on ios 7, plus I intend to keep the 4s only a year.

The device doesn't lag on iOS 7, at least for me. The main issue would be RAM, while multitasking, less apps will be in the background but I do not think this will be an issue for you. Also games crash a lot and again I do not think this will be an issue for you as well. It does have all the fancy animation the higher end devices have as well. As for iOS 8, from reports it seems that by GM, the device will perform no different than in iOS 8 since new animations or processor heavy features were added, though it is still hard to tell.
