No, eventually I realised that it wasn't truly a kernel panic. It was part of the BSOD collection presented by XScreenSaver!
I think you have to remember that back in those days, there was no internet, computer knowledge (let alone Mac!) was poor and if you saw a sad mac.. lord help you...
The importance of backing up your files was also not very well understood, so seeing a Sad mac was akin to watching the Blair Witch Project. Barely spooky today, but absolutely terrifying the first time!

I know I am late to this. As an owner of original mac computers I don't really find sad mac scary. Although many people try to make creepypastas of things. And I ended up finding this one the creepypasta wiki fandom and I actually had a nightmare that it came into my bedroom and grew hug teeth and that's it
