Only way to block ads on YouTube is pay Google a $11.99 monthly fee for YouTube Red.
Blocking ads on websites though is easy with ad blocker extensions for safari. Several to choose from in App Store.

I block ads on YouTube using NordVPN or Private Internet Access. I also use a free app called Lockdown.

Thank you, old guy here not very iphone competent-so that is part of the problem much better on imac, mbp...I have luna and protonpn they may have settings that need adjusted..

it is true- I may not have the appropriate extensions for safari on my iphone will look and copy what I have for my imac. and also will do lockdown thank you both very much....stay well, no kissing..,
