How to get an iPhone?? [Singapore and Japan]

Hello all, I'm so happy for those of you who managed to get your iphones.

What is the cheapest way and place to get an iphone 3g?

I'm currently living in Singapore and the launch date here is unknown but I'm dying to get one!
Will be visiting Japan next month, can I get one there without a contract?
Will it work if I got someone to buy an iphone from AT&T and terminate after 30 days paying ETF?

I don't think you can get one without contract anywhere (at least right now)...
But later? Probably! There're many grey markets in Asia where you can just go and pick the unlocked/jailbroken iPhones (First gen), so I assume this will (hopefully) be the case for the iPhone 3G also.

As for the buy-then-cancel, I don't see why you can't do that, but I don't know what the consequences are (like credit scores and stuff)...
