I had a playlist on my iPhone called "Recently Played". I went to access it today and it seems to have disappeared. I still had in iTunes on my MacBook Pro so I thought syncing the phone would get it back but now it's also disappeared from my iTunes library too. It has always been there and I never actually created it myself. Is there any way of getting it back or re-creating it. It used update dynamically with the songs I had played most recently and would replace old ones with new ones. I found it pretty useful to listen to the songs I was listening to most at the current time. Any help would be appreciated.

You want to recreate the smart playlist. You can change the number of items as desired:

Thanks for the quick response and the solution. That worked like a charm. I did try 50 songs at first but when I synced my phone it said it was over capacity. I'm not sure if it was a coincidence or not but there was plenty of space on my phone. I reduced it to 25 songs and then the phone was fine. I might try increasing again later but for now even 25 songs is great. Thanks again. :)

So if I want to use smart playlists again, I have to recreate them?

If they're not in iTunes, yes you have to recreate them, but you shouldn't have to keep redoing them all the time... I'm not having issues with the hundreds I have, I know people using Apple Music are having lots of problems with their libraries though...

I'm actually in the process of moving my library to another Mac and redoing things. The guy from http://dougscripts.com/itunes/index.php has an app called Smarts that will let you backup playlists if you're having issues with them disappearing:

Thanks. I made them with iTunes but they don't seem to be working since Apple Music was introduced.
