I thought I installed El Capitan beta, but "about" still shows 10.10.4. Wondering if I really have the beta up and running or just wishful thinking?

I've restarted several times and still see 10.10.4
If it says 10.10.4, you aren't running 10.11. There is a bug in the "about" window for 10.11 which shows "OS X Yosemite" but the version is correct at 10.11.
How did you update to the beta?

Open Terminal and type uname -r. If it is 15.0.0, you're running El Cap if it is 14.x.x, you're running 10.10.4.

Shake your cursor back and forth really quickly.. If it gets large, your on El Cap. But it sounds like you are still on Yosemite. Are you sure you didn't install the latest beta of Yosemite?

I AM now running El Capitan 10.11. I was faked out before in that I received the Apple invitation to try the Beta. I thought I checked the right boxes since I immediately got about 15 or more updates that even they all thought said Yosemite. Figured that was strange but 15 updates out of the blue???

I went back to the invitation and apparently clicked on the right box this time and El Capitan downloaded in one big file. Another thing that made me think I was using the beta was some of my OEM programs stopped running until I go into one of the last new Yosemite updates. One program was 1Password that finally started working again. Running with 10.11, 1Password seems fine now.

Yes, I can shake it and it gets LARGE. Also, my cursor. And yes, I got sucked in to the Yosemite Beta. For the life of me, I can't figure out why there would be a Yosemite Beta out when there is a new El Capitan Beta as well. What's that all about?

10.10.4 is still in beta. As is iOS 8.4. Both will be out by the end of the month for Apple Music. Then 10.11 and iOS 9 will be the only things left in beta. This has happened in the past as well.
