Is this normal or is there a way to get the 200mb of space back?

Currently there is a bunch of songs i put on it and i disabled the ability for the iPod to be used as storage, so I don't understand what is taking up 200 mb of space

Make sure you have “Manage Music Manually “ on.
Then under the songs and artist tab make sure nothing is checked on.
Lastly, reset to factory settings.

Everything does need some software to run, it could just be that, too.

I’ll have to plug mine in and check how much space is being used for the “system”.

Could not find my 4th gen.
Used my 1 gig 2nd gen.
The system software took up so little space it didn’t even give me an amount.
