I haven't owned a Mac since 2007, is bootcamp still the best way to play PC games?

USB, Thunderbolt or a second internal drive if you have a tower. All should work fine.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 with all expansion DLCs exepct latest "Road to Black Sea" - on my iMac with Mojave installed - 2K resolution, mid-to high details, around 40 FPS

same game on Bootcamp - 5K res, Ultra details, 60 FPS

sadly, Bootcamp is still the best way to play games and I don't like Windows and fact that I need to reboot to use it

Yes, that works just fine or did as of 2018 when I last used Bootcamp on my current MBP (signature).

The thing is running Windows, on a Mac, you have access to the gpu overclock that is missing in OS X...
And fan control, and a few other things.
in OS X you do not have any options like that, or control. You get what ever apple approved at that time...and that’s it. Updates are few if ever on the gpu in OS X.

drivers in windows are plenty, as well as tools to tune the gpu.

I personally don’t use bootcamp at all.
Just windows installed on a clean drive.
Only needed one driver from apple.
For WiFi/Bluetooth, the rest windows found and installed.
gpu unified windows drivers from nivida or amd, have many tools
In them all this missing in OS X.

Perhaps you could show where the gpu is listed with Mac fan control?
It’s not, nor will it overclock a gpu!
Not that the program is bad, it just has zero to do with a gpu...just sayin

This so much. Yes you can put screws in with a hammer but why? Using a screwdriver works so much better. If you're traveling and only want to take one laptop sure a Mac will work to play a few games but don't replace your gaming desktop PC with it.

Just my dream, but for a clean working/gaming desk, I would use an 27' iMac for work, and a PC gaming rig which output to the iMac screen, saving both money and space for a second monitor.
