What is the best software to solve this? Hopefully free.

You can just copy the music files from inside the 'iPod_Control' directory on your iPod. The filenames will be randomized, but any music organizing program will sort them out based on the tags they contain.

Forgot to mention the iPod is Mac-formatted. Also, Disk Mode is not enabled.

there

there are other 3rd party apps that can move songs from windows, macs and iPods
Iamazing (i think) worked well for me, until the first 99 transfers in 2018.
there are other software programs that could be better and free
hoped this helped!

iMazing doesn't recognize anything, iTunes only says there is a Mac-formatted device, and Windows Explorer displays this:

I believe there are some Windows applications that will allow you to read Mac-formatted disks. If that doesn't work you might need to find a friend with a Mac.
