That we didn’t have to update to iOS 15 and could stay on iOS 14 with security updates. I purchased a new 12 pro and asked for the oldest stock so I could go back to iOS 14 (I was on 15.1 on my iPhone 11 and battery life began to become horrible and annoying) however I do not have to option to stay on iOS 14 with updates, I only have the option to upgrade to iOS 15.1.1.

How do I stay on iOS 14 but update to iOS 14.8.1?

Shoot! It’s iOS 14.3 ?
I have been complaining about this same issue in a few threads recently. As of now, we are stuck. I am holding out hope Apple keeps their word.

Hopefully when the next iOS 15 update comes out they will also provide an updated version of iOS 14 we can upgrade to.

Question, have you reached out directly to Apple about this? I mean I do not think anything will change otherwise

In the middle of several books.

I think you are stuck since you already made the leap.

Just tweeted @Applesupport... same info I got here, nothing more. Doesn’t look good for those of us wanting to stay on iOS 14.

yes - I spoke with support on the phone. they said "the only option is what shows up in Settings -> General -> Software Update".

that is such a weasel answer they gave you. "Ok, how do I update to 14.5?"

So those of you stuck on 14.3 and chose NOT to update to 14.5 when y’all KNEW Apple stops signing iOS updates within a month of release are mad at Apple for your OWN decisive inaction ?! Is that what’s going on here? I mean you visit these forums you see the main page you must’ve been aware of this a king time now right?

Is this not like complaining on missing out of Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals n complaining they’re gone in mid January next year? Not exaggerating but the length of time is very similar here.

For the OP yes you’re correct and that sucks especially for a new iPhone 12 and specifically asked to get the oldest stock to ensure their on iOS 14.

Others have mentioned Etherium gripe but they haven’t stated they purchased a new device in their hands.

Curious if using an o line storage app can THAT app (3rd party) be used as the default storage of photos taken so that a photo never goes into Apples iOS Photos app? Hmm.

That is not an answer, that is an excuse.

The real problem is this that people dont install ios15.x and now apple is forcing to do this. They promised to keep ios14 up-to-date, now im getting messages/badges to install ios 15.1.

You should start class action law-suit against apple.

There are people that backup the iOS stubs that are downloaded during the update process. I remember being able to find them online. If you can find in, and trust the source of that file, you *can* 'install' older versions of the OS. Well, in this case, install a 'banned' update to a deprecated version. I have never tried that, but some say that it does work.

In my mind, finding a 'safe' source would be difficult. Good luck...

Oh, and if Apple has a chance or reason to do a 'forced update', is that if Apple decides that their latest update should be required, then your iPhone would be updated. The only way to stop it would be to 'Faraday it', and remove internet connectivity. I remember being 'gifted' Windows 10 from Microsoft. I even tweaked the registry that was supposed to deny it. It worked out well, as 10 *is* pretty stable, but it could have ended (Vista) badly...

That seems kind of silly. I kept getting 'Update to Windows 10' announcements several times. I replied no. I tweaked the registry in a way to deny the upgrade. Microsoft finally said 'Thou shalt update', and I came to the system with the message 'Wait as we get your computer ready to use'. I would doubt that Apple would force people to update to iOS 15.x. I would hope they didn't, but they *could*. Suing Apple would be prohibitively expensive, and would also meet a high bar to survive initial review. Many class action suits end almost before they begin because it was made much harder to start them. I know you were being flippant, but...

Seems like you cannot get a 14.8.1 .ipsw file to install via Finder. Apple really doesn't want people to be able to downgrade from iOS 15 to iOS 14.
