Looks like it is NOT a midi controller. Or MIDI anything. Here's a response I got:

Thanks for writing to BEHRINGER technical support. The iAxe 393 USB-guitar offers USB-audio connectivity from the guitar to the computer (audio signal from the guitar's pickups via USB audio) as well as from the computer to the guitar (audio output from the computer via USB-audio to the headphone monitoring jack on the guitar so you can listen to output from the computer). The iAxe does not have any MIDI connectivity or functionality, it's strictly audio.

playing back computer audio through a guitar. yeah, i didn't see that one coming.

looking at their literature on the product, it *is* really ambiguous. i could easily see thinking it was a controller -- guess their marketing team needs to have another go-round.
