i'm in another realitive's house, and there's no connection. i'm using the house's computer to go online. i brought an ibook, and i want to use it to go online.

i stuck the phone line into the modem port. nothing

opened network preferences, the modem was inactive. i selected it, the two options below were greyed out.

i used setup assistant. when it shows you what kind of connection you want to have, it has all but the dialup connection available.

kinda stuck here. the ibook won't let me setup the modem, it knows it has one, yet it greyed out all the options for it.

Have you tried using Internet Connect (the purple icon)? On my PB it has an option to configure the internal modem. Maybe give that a try. :)

that won't work either. only configuration for ethernet, or airport.

i don't know why the dialup options are greyed out.

this is a very perplexing problem
