I haven't heard anything about how easy (or difficult) it would be to upgrade the machine -- adding RAM, installing a new hard-drive, upgrading the processor later, etc. I'd like to buy the $1299 model and add aftermarket RAM and maybe a larger hard drive when the prices come down.
Anyone got the scoop?

I have installed Ram and it is Super simple on the old iBooks. The hard drive and processor chips are harder though. I would suggest going to http://www.google.com and typing in how to install ram into an iBook. How to install a processor chip into an iBook. How to install a harddrive into the iBook.

You should find some answers. If not go to the technical support page at http://www.apple.com and sign up for the discussion groups over there.
