OK, i have no clue when/how it deactivated either....

I had some weird/similar iCloud issues on my MBP, and ended up upgrading to High Sierra and doing some hoops to get it back online. Everything deleted, but i've been going along just fine.
Until today.
Somehow it seems to have turned OFF on the iPad, and in Files it is telling me I need to authenticate. Clicking on the blue Authenticate text does nothing. So into settings I went. That is where I see it is off, and when I click on - gears are spinning while it is "updating". Then it fails and sets itself to off.
I'm going crazy, I need it working - and the doctor changed some of my nerve meds today and all I want to do is sleep! LOL
I'm not sure where to go or what to try. Google got me articles from 2014-5 mostly. I can call Apple, but not today - I don't think I can talk coherently!
Can anyone point me in the proper direction at this point?
