Apple One If 2 people in the midst of yearly AppleMusic subscriptions join together under FamilySharing, do they forfeit remainder of original subscriptions?

I and a family member both have yearly Apple Music subscriptions and some other Apple services, and we realized we'd save money with Family Sharing.

Is, say, the remainder of the time of our respective individual subscriptions credited back to us once we start Family Sharing or is this just lost? If I had been going month to month, a loss would not be a big deal, but year to year is a lot of time. Thanks.
