iPad If I don't update my iPad...

Hi everyone,

I have an old (read: ancient) iPad 2 that I use for school, mostly just for word processing, internet browsing, and reading textbooks. It still runs iOS 8.4.1. If I were to keep it on 8.4.1, can I still update it to 9.3.5 later on if I needed to? As a sidenote, how does 9.3.5 run on the iPad 2? Does anyone know?
