iCloud If you created an iCloud account with a non Apple email, can you swap the Apple ID to be on iCloud?

I have a friend who made their account on an ISP email address that they no longer have access to. I just told them to enable iCloud Mail but it still displays their ISP email below their name when you go to Settings>iCloud. Will this change after some amount of server processing? Does something else need to be adjusted?

I don’t think having an iCloud email address and the email address of your Apple ID is related. For example, my Apple ID email is a yahoo email address but I have an iCloud email address as well. You have to change your Apple ID. I’ve done it once, but I can’t remember how it’s done.

Yes I've been there, enabling iCloud Mail will not change your Apple ID. Your friend needs to follow this procedure to change it: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT202667
