In the UK a 2019 entry level Imac with 500gb ssd is £2000. A 2017 entry level model with 1tb fusion drive is now £1200. I could boot this from a Samsung 500gb X5 t.bolt drive which would add £200 to the price making it £1400. So, is the 2019 machine worth the extra £600?....... Thanks.

2019 iMac supports 4K HDR with Catalina, 2017 iMac is not capable of 4K HDR Playback and playback of 4K HDR content will not be supported by Apple on the 2017 iMac.

I’d get the entry level 2019 and the X5 instead, if you want to save a bit of money. The 2019 will be longer supported and has a 6 core CPU.
