Hi everyone!
I looking for hardware upgrade options for my 24" 2006 iMac. Right now it have C2D t7400 2.16Ghz CPU and 7300Gt/128mb GPU. Both CPU and GPU are socketed, so they can be upgraded, but i can't decide which hardware should i buy.

I know that I can install t7600 CPU and 7600Gt/256Mb GPU and they will work, because apple preinstalled them in more powerfull modifications of 6,1 iMac. But maybe i can go futher and use more powerfull hardware?.

For CPU i found t7800 or even x7900 cheap on ebay. They have same socket, but both have 800Mhz bus instead of 677Mhz in currently CPU. How do you think, will it work?. For GPU i found AMD Radeon HD4670M Mxm 2.1A for Apple iMac 21.5" 2009.

Generely I just curious if some of you have made any non-standard upgrades to 6,1 iMac?

A1200 Imac has socket M for its CPU which T7600 is the best you can find, and the best GPU you can get is 7600GT released by Apple since Apple only allowed its own vbios

What's your end goal? The performance difference would be rather small at best. Especially compared to what you would probably pay for a CPU or GPU.

It's not about achieving any performance goals, actually. I just want to upgrade this machine to top specs, close this page of history and go to next mac :) Usually i don't even use my hobby computers, but this iMac still make some of my daily tasks. So this upgrade makes little sense :)
