I'll have more tests later, but this should give a basic idea of the performance of these new iMacs for gaming.

Systems:

Benchmarks:
  1. Default - 1024x768, All Settings "High", HDR Enabled, No AA, No AF, Trilinear filtering
  2. High Resolution - Increased resolution to 1680x1050

Results:
  • iMac (Mid 2007)
    1. 122 FPS
    2. 77 FPS
  • iMac (Early 2006)
    1. 78 FPS
    2. 44 FPS

Note the new iMac has half as much RAM and is still a good 37-43%

Thanks!

Well, not that bad at all. OK, HL2 Lost Coast is old. Can you please test with 2xFSAA + 2xAdaptive AA and 8xAF?

I just tested all settings max, 1680x1050, 6xMSAA*, 16X AF (highest possible settings)

Benchmarked at 49 FPS

* I think there is something wrong with the 6xMSAA setting, it did not look anti-aliased and 2x performs worse, I think the 6x setting was working as No AA.

1680x1050, 2xMSAA, 16xAF = 33 FPS
1280x1024, 4xMSAA, 8xAF = 38 FPS

Very nice indeed. you should try using ATI tool to bump the clock speed up to the "actual" frequencies, 700 clock 750 memory and see what you get then :D

Comparing with this article it really does blow the 2600 Pro out of the water, which only achieves 38 frames at 1280 x 1024 4xAA 8xAF

Are these the results from the stress test or from in game stuff? I know all the half-life stuff the stress test is always higher then in game performance?

It's the stress test.

I'll be setting up some other benchmark tools to ensure I get consistent results across all systems.

Also do you have Count Strike Source, just woundering since u have lost coast? If so could u post some results of that. If you do type in the console net_graph 1, to give the in game results while playing online.

Thanks

Considering that Lost Coast is more demanding than CS: Source, that's encouraging. I'd probably be happy as a clam, considering I play without HDR, AA, or Anisotropic Filtering.

It looks like its a 2600XT...

Just in case any one has missed it adom in the 2600XT thread in apple hardware seems to have discovered that the 2600pro in the iMac is actually and underclocked 2600XT. This is great news. He also ran a Half-Life benchmark and got 115FPS which is in line with Haoshiro's first test score.

hey, no worries. glad to help. ive got to get the bloody thing to download again. hmm. when i double click the .download file it doesnt do anything. lol its only a few megs off the finished size too. guna have to google how to resume .download files in windows i guess.

EDIT: OK, so i download the official ATI control center, after what happened thought i should really take the official route. lol. here's what i found....

Whoa, them new iMacs do like HL2! I still only play that, so it's good to know when I upgrade I'll be pumping out needlessly high FPS figures!

yeah, CS, HL2 and all of that source package run really nice on these new imacs. Even with my stock 20" 2.4, its really fun to play.

I was going to do the whole 3dMark thing, but i never got round to it. Had a bit of a car accident and my back has been hurting since lol, so i didnt feel like sitting at this desk.

sweet machines tho, I'de reccomend one to anyone!

Just need to sell my G5 iSight imac now!

Edit: Ill check out those drivers tonight. thanks for the heads up
