iPhone iMessage bug going to old phone still exists?

Hey guys. I recently lost my 4S running 5.1.1. It was setup to get imessages with "receive at" being an email. I have changed my apple ID password but was wondering if my imessages can still go to this lost iphone even if it was restored?

I am asking because there was a bug that even after remote wipe and changing apple ID password - imessages would still go to lost/stolen phones

I'm not sure if it was a bug or by design but you had to remove the phone from the support profile. If this was by design, it's an incredibly stupid on behalf of Apple.
