Carrier iMessage turned on, but not working after switching to AT&T GoPhone plan

I have a 5S that I had service through Straight Talk but switched to AT&T GoPhone prepaid because of problems with ST.

My iPhone works great on GoPhone except my iMessage does not work. It is turned on, so I can't figure out what the problem is.

When I try to send an iMessage, I get a red error above the message that says it can't go though and then it sends as a text message instead.

Help!
